Imagine, if you will, it's a dark & smokey in the 1920’s Greenwich Village, a young Louis Armstong on stage. Or listen for the roar of a jam-packed Cotton Club, with Duke Ellington and his Orchestra setting the night on fire. And somewhere in the distance across the water from the electricity and explosiveness of the captive city, the fictional Jay Gatsby is working feverishly to harness the soul of Roaring Twenties excess in the name of love, and doing so backed by the only soundtrack that matches his intensity.
The origins of Jazz are well documented and its categorization as a true American art form is indisputable. And at its heart: collaboration and improvisation.
The musicians playing for the event have embraced the spirit of jazz and sacrifice a precious hour of sleep five days a week for their early morning jazz band class. They show up often before dawn ten months out of the year to spend time soloing on that musical high wire of improvisation, and in turn, learn to hold the net for others in the spirit of collaboration. As the year goes on, they coalesce into a swinging, jamming unitof color, complexity and fun. We are thrilled that you’re here with us at The Gatsby Jazz Club.
Your support of the musicians and the exceptional musical programs they are part of is genuinely appreciated and on behalf of all T.E.M.P.O. officers and parent volunteers
Thank you!
We are seeking donations for the silent and live auctions as well as in-kind and cash donations to support the logistics of the evening. In addition we have a few spots for premier/banner Event Sponsors.
